An afternoon with Dan Zimmerman

April 17, 2009

Glowing and wild-eyed

March 10, 2009

“In a music landscape often dominated by twenty-somethings and their casio beats, Dan Zimmerman descends from the mountain glowing and wild-eyed, the madman prophet singing molassed-gravel sonnets and with a burlap sack of rattlesnakes slung over his shoulder. A supreme joy and danger to listen to.”

-Michael Kaufman, of Asthmatic Kitty, talking about the forthcoming Dan Zimmerman record Cosmic Patriot, due out on Sounds Familyre April 21.

Sounds Familyre recently released another free mp3 from the album. You can check it out HERE. And if you haven’t already, download “Everyday In My Heart” by clicking HERE.

New Dan Zimmerman coming in April

February 12, 2009

It’s been almost nine years since Sounds Familyrite Dan Zimmerman released his last record so you could say it’s about time some news surfaced about a release date for Cosmic Patriot, his second full-length album for Daniel Smith’s label.

The album is slated for release on April 21.

It “features the extraordinary talents of Elin K. Smith, Joshua Stamper, Emil Nikolaisen (Serena Maneesh), Tony Jones, Jie Jin, Christian Palladino, Ambrose Liu, Jason Kourkounis (Bardo Pond) and Josiah Wolf (Why?). But at the heart of it all is the voice of Dan Zimmerman, a voice saturated with the kind of musicality that is only arrived at by making music for over fifty years.”
